Analysis of a Direct Microcontroller Interface for Capacitively Coupled Resistive Sensors

A novel approach to directly interface a capacitively coupled resistive sensor microcontroller is presented in this article. The existing measurement schemes for such sensors are complex. In addition, the coupling capacitance often also holds important data. proposed simple system, series RC sensors, capable of measuring both resistance and capacitance. detailed analysis on effect nonidealities showed that it independent accuracy charging capacitor, supply voltage, preset threshold voltage. performance scheme has been evaluated by building suitable prototypes. Initially, setup was designed not limited microcontroller. test results from maximum error 0.28% 0.96% measurement, respectively. subsequent study with exhibited 0.91% (resistance) 2.94% (capacitance). Noise resolution studies have conducted presented. prototype promising, time 5 ms per parameter. This practical, low-power, low-cost system as provides digital data capacitance, series, using only microcontroller, couple passive components.
